The Police Department maintains public order, provides emergency police services, and responds to citizen calls for police services. The Department is a full-service law enforcement agency.

Divisions
The Department consists of two divisions:

  • Field Operations which includes patrol, traffic, detectives, canine unit, crime prevention, and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE)
  • Support Services which includes administration, evidence / property, emergency communications, and other support functions

Officers and dispatchers are recruited from throughout the country and generally have five to 10 years prior experience.

Traffic Safety & Enforcement Measures
The Department employs a broad spectrum of traffic safety and enforcement measures, including:

  • Motorcycle officers
  • Unmarked cars
  • Neighborhood traffic watch
  • Vacation watch
  • Speed display trailers
  • DUI enforcement task forces
  • Speed and red light photo enforcement

Through the Block Watch Program, Public Safety Fair, active public information releases to news media, police station tours, and presentations to community groups, the Department takes a proactive approach to providing residents information to protect themselves and their property from crime and traffic collisions.
